The Windmills stop running

This post, while not necessarily the end of my blogging, is certainly intended to mark the beginning of what will be a really long absence.

Blogging has been a wonderful experience and brought me new friends - something only the miracle of the internet makes possible at my age, unless one shifts into an old people's home (for which I am not quite ready yet). From among blog-friends I have had the pleasure of physically meeting some and, with a few, developed bonds outside of blogging, too. I will, of course, continue to read their blogs and make comments. And people like 'rayhan', and others too shy to reveal themselves, I will, no doubt, encounter on other blogs.

Peace!

Thanks for having helped in keeping the blades of this Windmill turning for so long. (For the touchy people among you: this does not mean that I think you are full of wind!)

I am shocked! Why this abrupt departure? I for one really, truly enjoyed your posts and will miss reading your commentary immensely. It has been an absolute pleasure.

Whatever may be the real reason behind this move, I respect your decision. I sincerely hope that we stay in touch via regular blog comments and email.
Does this mean, that are Karachi blog meet is off? ;)

Damn! It is like the protagonist walking out of the movie right in the middle of a climatic scene.

The shock of this will reverberate for days.

i suspect all of this is a controversy to get people over at ur place. make them miss u so much they have no choice but to pop down all the time! ;)

of course we'll be in touch via email, kiddo. and you can continue to pop in just as frequently as you do ...

Correction: "Does this mean OUR karachi blog meet is off?" I was refering to my visit to KHI. In suspended animation or not, I am sure you are welcome to all blogger meets.

goodness gracious. I do despise change, especially when it comes packaged as one of my favorite blogs going silent. But I am in no position to question your decision, so here's hoping you'll find another vent for your thoughts until you decide to start blogging again.

Zak, too sad that the windmills are going to stop running. I only hope its temporary.
Besides being my favourite blog, I'd just like to tell you that I'd never heard of blogs till you sent me a link to your post last June (2005). Not only has each post been a delight to read, thanks to you, I've become a regular visitor to so many blogs via yours and have been introduced to so much good writing. Your posts have been full of wit and humour despite them being about real issues and so much more. Thank you ZAK for 'unzipping my mind'.You're one of a kind.
Hope the windmills come back soon.

@akg & ghazala. thanks. i hope people within reach haven't forgotten in this e-age that they can meet physically, too. and - pretty soon - there'll be a nice, friendly place to do so.

What else can one say except :( and good luck. I do hope you have a change of heart. Medical Science has made that quite easy these days.

For those of us for whom e-contact was the basic way to communicate this has come as quite a blow. Sincerely hope this will prove to be a short hiatus.

Excuse me while I borrow your own bit of poetry to urge you to return to blogging as soon as you find it feasible

@ rayhan & sabizak

change of heart and quick return seem fairly difficult, given the long list of targets i have set myself over the next 3 months. but thanks for your sentiments.

I guess I'll check out the archives, in the meantime.

thanks sidhusaaheb. i'd also suggest reading olive ream's archive. he decided to pack up his blog the same day, but i swear we have no conspiracy going :-)

@oa: several ppl think we're on some secret mission together and are also wondering why you are going to be in khi at a time when there are new ventures sab and i are getting into (a coffeehouse - for which you'll need to come back in feb)

@ ZAK, "wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more". Let's agree to be overtly covert regarding our reasons for our blog sabbatical and my trip to karachi - although I've just revealed half the secret (reason) in a new post on my blog.

Best of luck regarding the coffeehouse venture with Sabeen. Sounds like a wonderful idea and I wish you all the success. Look forward to seeing you (and all the other bloggers and bloggerettes) in Karachi next month.

WOW ... whats happening to the world around us.

I wish you all the best for everything and I, like many would seriously miss your brilliant & unique style of writing. I feel fortunate to have met you before you threw in the towel.

Lets keep this friendship alive, but hope to see you around the blogosphere keeping an eye on us and guinding us when needed.

Hat tip to Windmills of My Mind

Blast! Just when I had got used to unloading my glarbage-filled thloughts at a blog of chloice.

At least the cessation of this one ends with a tantalising link to an endgame move - on another tailender, it's true, but life was ever full of cliffhangers.

@the olive ream: although I've just revealed half the secret (reason) in a new post on my blog ..... I sought it here, I sought it there; was it in heaven, was it in hell; that demmed elusive clew to the Windmill's end?

Oh, never mind, I'll just have to come back to Karachi and find out for myself :-)

You'll be missed, I've enjoyed reading your blog over the past month or so. Come back when you can.

Blogger the olive ream said...

@countrybeautor: The 'half the secret' was in reference to my departure and not ZAK's. As far as Windmill's absence, I am sure ZAK will reveal the reason(s) in due time as and when he feels right. Although, he has pretty clearly mentioned one of the reasons in his comments here.

"...elusive clue to windmill's end?" Correction Windmill has NOT ended. Our favourite blog is on hiatus. I can't even fathom the thought of 'end' in reference to Windmills - too bloody depressing for me to deal with.

thank, sage. i am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the writings. will try and get back as soon a i can get some of the long-pending matters out of the way ...

WHY? WHY? WHY???? Oh never mind, this just gives me an excuse to bum off at bits more often (now that I've found my way there) and I'll get an answer and track you down to your secret blog :p.
You made this place worthwhile.

Oh darn! Guess I am late again. Anyways, thought that this would be a good enough way to keep in touch since I decided I had had enough of Ajay's chae... and if I remember correctly you hadn't even mentioned this windmills-stop-running thing in passing. Not even sabeen or buzz did.

Anyways, we'll sure keep in touch!
