The Speech

Waited, despite being immensely tired, only to discover that it lacked even the sound and fury ... and ended being just a tale told by an idiot. Signifying nothing.

Aah, well.
To sleep, perchance to dream - ay, there's the rub.

I wonder whether the Ab Lincoln reference was his own idea or that of some bright spark among his aides.

Double-barrelled Shakespeare. What fun.

i was about to say he needs better speech writers, but then again... does it really matter what kind of spin you try and put on martial law? i actually expected he'd use Swat as more of a reason, but instead he pretty much slammed the impudence of a judiciary that dares to attempt independence. maybe the judiciary needs a standing army... that's the only way it seems it can compete with the military to enforce its orders.

Seems like life is turning into one long nightmare, no respite for the aching souls, tired bodies (mine not Shakespeare's ... in case any one starts wondering :))

being an european citizen leaves me very ashamed of the international, specially weak, position. pakistan is surely facing a very difficult situation - suicied attacks, etc - but the today's context is probably the result of intern and external causes which affect the country since several decades.
have been several times in pakistan working as a journalist.people have been schocked with a neesweek article where pakistan was pointed as the most dangerous country. i did not get surprised with it, specially because during my stayings i could watch the explosive combination of poverty and dictarial system existing there. hope cannot "die" but realism is no doubt relevant... and the future will certainly be not "pink"

Extremely well and aptly worded. 'A tale by an idiot' indeed.

I was sensible and went to sleep ... what could he possibily have said that would have justified the action he has taken?
